When the talk turns to championships, it won’t be long before Brightlingsea Sailing Club is mentioned. Over recent year the club has hosted open, national and international events for classes such as Mirror, Cadets, B14s, Tornados and more – often with fleets of over 100 boats.

The efficient and coordinated team swings into action for such events and they are skilled at handling such numbers on the water with high levels of competitiveness and safety. Off the water the fun includes dinners, band, discos, quizzes & much more.

“Just a short note of thanks, both personally and on behalf of the National Solo Class Association. I have not heard a single word of criticism from our side. Good sailing waters, good courses, great Clubhouse, superb galley/food and very friendly people all round.  Any query we had was promptly and politely dealt with. A proper Sailing Club was the general view.” Roger Gravatt, President NSCA, Solo Nationals 2014.

“I would like to thank everyone involved with the preparation and running of our recent National Championships that took place in your lovely club recently. The organization was fantastic and the racing was excellent. The food was amazing and everyone had a fabulous time. We hope to be back one day in the future if you are happy to have us!” Tom Garvin, Chairman British One-Design Association

“Fantastic RegFest this weekend ! A hearty thank you to Brightlingsea Sailing Club and her happy volunteers who made the weekend so enjoyable – great band, lots of laughs, fine food from morning till night and oh yes some great champagne sailing for all the classes – thank you all !!” Simon Flack, F18 Nationals 2014.

We all know only too well that Brightlingsea Sailing Club is located in one of the most idyllic spots on the East Coast and that there are few things in life more enjoyable than spending time messing around on our beach and in the Creek with friends and family. We're also aware that while we have lots of racing and formal training opportunities, to date we haven't focused on supervised sailing purely for fun and fitness.  Well in 2017 that is all going to change with the introduction of Friday Night Family Fun and Women On Water (WOW) Sessions. These sessions will be run from May through until July and will be timed to coincide with evening high water times to make them perfect for fun at the beach.  There will be rescue boat support with informal coaching advice for those who would like it. The club boats will be available for those who don't have their own boats, and members of all ages and abilities are welcome to simply come and  join in the fun. As part of the National This Girl Can campaign we will be including special opportunities to get the girls afloat. Whether you want to race or simply enjoy pottering around our beautiful creeks and rivers for fun, sailing is a great way to get fit and enjoy time in the fresh air. We will have female coaches on hand to help get you afloat and introduce you to the sport, and if you discover you love it as much as we do there are plenty of ways we can get you more involved. The bar will be open and the galley team will be coordinating various offerings (ideas under discussion include firing up the club BBQs so you can bring your own food to cook, a bulk order Fish and Chips night and a Curry night) so you can truly make it a great fun and relaxed evening among friends. The 2017 Friday Night Family Fun And Women On Water dates are: Friday 19th May Friday 2nd June Friday 16th June Friday 30th June Friday 14th July Friday 28th July The sessions will start at 18.00.  For more information please contact Craig Bond on

So whether you fancy a sail to Wivenhoe or Rowhedge for a pub lunch, picnicking on Second Beach, exploring the backwaters of our stunningly beautiful rivers and creeks or venturing further afield up the Blackwater do get involved. You will find the race results for the Ralph Sutton Handicap & Len Cook Tankard race and the first of the Spring Series results at The 2017 BSC Handicaps can be found in the Online Library.  The new Handicap Groupings will be published shortly.
As this year's Thursday Night Series starts a week later than usual (11 May), by popular demand we have added an extra one off Champagne Pursuit Race on Thursday 4 May. The format will be exactly the same as the normal Thursday night pursuits with the first start at 19.00 - high tide is 19.00 too so perfect timing. The results won't count towards the Thursday series but the lucky winner will receive a bottle of champagne at the post race prize giving.
Legendary sailor and sailmaker Mike McNamara has won more National, Continental and World Championships than most of us have had hot dinners. His talks on trimming and getting your boat to go fast are both hugely informative and highly entertaining, and we are delighted to announce that Mike will join us at Brightlingsea Sailing Club to Talk Trimming on Friday 12 May 2017 from 7pm. This will be a very practical, hands on session so do please join us and be ready to get involved and learn from the master. Part of the talk is planned to take place in front of the club so bring a jacket as it can get chilly. The talk will cost £3.00 per head and we are also offering a club supper at a cost of £7.00 per head (payable in advance). Please book your tickets online here. Calling all Cadets and youngsters age 10 and over!  This Tuesday 2nd May we have registration for this year's Tuesday night Cadet Sailing sessions. These sessions are aimed at providing a fun introduction to sailing for youngsters and are open to both members and non-members of the club.  The sessions are organised by our Sailing School Principle Craig Bond and take place every Tuesday from the start of May until mid July. To sign up for this year's sessions please come to registration this Tuesday 2 May at 18.o0 at the Sailing Club. All cadets must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for registration, where arrangements for the sailing sessions will be explained. Don't forget that we have a special Champagne Pursuit Race this Thursday 4 May (Prize Giving in the bar after racing) and that the 2017 Thursday Night Series gets underway next Thursday 11 May, all starting from 7pm. Once again the fabulous Barry Newman and Roger Robertson will be officiating in the start hut and we're looking forward to some great evening racing. Please remember to collect a copy of the 2017 Pursuit Race start times from the hut as some handicaps have changed this year.
Please note that there is an error on the printed calendar.  The race start times for this weekend (10 and 11 June) should both be 14.00 (not 11.00 as printed).  The online version of the calendar is correct. Huge apologies for this error.  Please spread the word to fellow members, friends and family to ensure they know about this change.
Please note that there are three further corrections required to start times given in the Printed version of the BSC Calendar.  These changes are as follows: Saturday 8th July shown as 11:00 – start should be 14:00 Sunday 9th July shown as 11:00 – start should be 12:00 – the race is the three Creeks Crawl so this special time is set to give the boats plenty of water to get round the islands Sunday 23rd  July shown as 11:00 – start should be at 14:00 hrs All times on the online calendar are correct so these changes only apply to the printed version of the calendar.
