This weekend, 6-8 October, sees the club hosting the inaugural edition of Brightlingsea Skiff Fest supported by Horizon Construction.  With racing for B14s, RS200s, 2000s, 4000s and RS700s plus a host of social activity its going to be a fantastic weekend. Things kick off on Friday 6 October with a combined New Members and Skiff Fest Welcome Reception from 7pm.  Everyone is welcome to join us for drinks to welcome both the competitors and this season's new members. On Saturday registration for Skiff Fest opens at o9.30 and the bacon butties will be on the go. The bar will be open from lunchtime and the galley will be in full swing all weekend including offering a delicious curry or lasagna supper on Saturday evening at 6.30pm (tickets for this can be booked with Kathy Ashworth at the Registration desk). After supper the legendary Contraband are playing from 8pm so dig out those dancing pumps and get ready to shake your booty and show the Skiff Fest visitors some real BSC hospitality.  On Sunday the butties will be on the go one again to help mop up those hangovers and the Skiff Fest prize giving will take place asap after racing. For all the details of Skiff Fest please visit brightlingsea-skiff-fest.sailbrightlingsea.com and we look forward to seeing you in the club over the weekend.

There will be a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Graham Adams at All Saints Church in Brightlingsea, at 2pm on Tuesday 26 September 2017.  This will be followed by a wake, which will be held at Brightlingsea Sailing Club. Jane and Ben would like all members and friends who knew Graham to know that they are welcome to attend.
It is with the greatest sadness that we report that Graham Adams crossed his final finish line on the night of 31 August/1 September, following a long and bravely fought battle with ill health. Graham will be fondly remembered by many members as one of the club's greatest raconteurs and characters. Despite his failing health he continued to take part in club life and was still visiting regularly until just a few days ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jane, his son Ben and his family and friends at this very difficult time. Funeral details will be shared when they are available.
This year's Laying Up Supper on Saturday 28 October is going to be quite the event. It will be a Black Tie Masquerade, the social committee has exciting plans for the decor and entertainment, our Vice Commodores House are working with the outside caterers on a great menu and we have the legend that is Mr Chris Matthews lined up as Master of Ceremonies. So put the 28 October in your diaries, start planning your outfits and prepare to join us to celebrate a fantastic year of sailing for BSC and to honour our Trophy and Championship winners! Full details on how to purchase tickets will be published shortly.
You can keep up with all the latest from Learning & Skills Solutions Pyefleet Week at www.pyefleetweek.com.  There's a packed social programme ahead starting with the bar being open to welcome everyone arriving on Friday night and then our brand new Horse Racing Night on Saturday to get things off to a great start.  The full programme is as follows:
We love that everyone at BSC is highly competitive, and we appreciate that in the heat of battle or in the face of disappointment, one can occasionally become over excited or loose one's temper.  However, we have had a few cases of bad language reported to the committee recently so we would like to take this opportunity to remind all members that we should be kind and polite to our fellow competitors and race officials at all times and that bad language and aggressive behaviour are never acceptable. We hope that we never have cause to exercise it, but don't forget that when it receives reports of poor language or behaviour, your committee has the right to call a hearing under Rule 69. Please help us ensure fair and fun sailing for all and count to ten next time you feel you want to give someone a piece of your mind.
Further to our earlier post please be aware that the start time for racing this coming Sunday 23 July is 14.00 (not 11.00 as given on the printed calendar).  Once again our apologies for this error, we believe this is the last discrepancy so from this point forward to printed and online calendars should agree.
