The fleet splits for Pyefleet Week 2016 have now been announced and details of who will be sailing when can be found at
Saturday 7 May saw the BSC Cadet AGM elect a new Cadet Committee and Flag Officers to represent the interests of the cadet section.  BSC has a proud tradition of active cadet participation in club life and it is wonderful to see the current generation of cadets stepping up and wanting to get actively involved. Elected at the AGM were: Cadet Commodore - Brook Hastings Cadet Vice Commodore - Georgina White Cadet Secretary - Tom Goodsell Cadet Treasurer - Brandon Hastings Cadet Committee Member - Harry McTiernan In addition Ed Eeles volunteered to join the Cadet Committee at the AGM and was co-opted for the coming year, and several other cadets have expressed an interest in getting more involved.  The Cadet Committee plans to initially meet fortnightly after the Transition Squad sailing sessions with their first meeting taking place on Saturday 21 May. At the AGM the cadets took the opportunity to hold a brainstorming session to gather ideas for helping to encourage and develop cadet participation on the water (both racing and cruising/social sailing) and socially ashore, and a host of great ideas were put forward for discussion and action by the Cadet Committee. Any cadets who are interested in getting involved on the Cadet Committee should speak to Brook Hastings (parents please feel free to speak with Brook or with Vice Commodore's Craig Bond, Andy Taylor, Martin Ferrett or Marianne White who will all be actively supporting the cadets in establishing their committee).
The Brightlingsea Sailing Club Cadet AGM will take place as advertised on Saturday 7 May 2016 at 13.00 (1pm) in the Upstairs Lounge of the Club House.  All BSC Cadet members are invited to attend  Please note that parents are welcome to be present as observers but may not take part in the meeting unless specifically invited to do so by the Chairman. The Agenda for the meeting is as follows:
  1.  Welcome and Introduction of BSC General Committee Members present who will initially lead the meeting.
  2. Apologies for absence
  3. Minutes of last meeting
  4. Election of officers and committee members.  Nominations have been received from the following individuals:
    1. Cadet Commodore Brook Hastings
    2. Cadet Vice Commodore Georgina White
    3. Cadet Secretary Tom Goodsell
    4. Cadet Treasured Brandon Hastings
    5. Cadet Committee Member Harry McTiernan
  5. Identify Cadet Section's key aims and objectives for the coming year for action by the Cadet Officers and Committee.
  6. Any other business.
We've had a great response from the Cadets who are keen to attend their AGM on Sunday 7 May at 13.00 and to get a new Cadet Committee established. We've already had a number of cadets volunteer to stand for the Cadet Committee but we're keen to encourage as many people to get involved as possible so if you are a cadet and think you would like to help run and shape the cadet section so please apply. We've extended the deadline for submission of nominations to next Sunday 1 May to allow people time to put in their forms, and the Cadet AGM Agenda listing those who are standing for posts together with the rest of the business to be discussed will be published on Monday 2 May. You can download and print out a copy of the nomination form here or pick one up from behind the bar.  They must be returned to the bar or to Fiona Brown at or 77 Hurst Green, Brightlingsea by Sunday 1 May.

Training and skills development are core activities for Brightlingsea Sailing Club so we are delighted to announce that 2016s Tuesday Night Cadet Training and Wednesday Night Supported Development Sessions will get underway in the first week of May. Cadets from 9 to 18 years can take part on Tuesday nights and registration for this will take place from 18.00 on Tuesday 3 May with the first on the water session the following week from 18.00 on Tuesday 10 May.  You can find out more about the programme and how to get involved at Wednesday Night's Supported Development Sessions are open to members of all ages who have attended a training course and would now like to develop their skills and gain confidence.  The first Wednesday night session of 2016 will take place on Wednesday 4 May starting at 18.00.  You can find out more about these sessions and the full programme at Both of these events are run entirely by volunteer members and helpers are always needed, so if you can spare some time to assist either afloat or ashore please contact Vice Commodore Training Craig Bond on  The evenings are great fun and you will find yourself making new friends and getting as much enjoyment out of it as the cadets and those developing their skills do - and of course helping at one of theses sessions counts as one of your twelve "participations" in club activities that enable us to maintain our CASC status.
The Cadet AGM will take place on Saturday 7 May at 13.00 in the clubhouse and all BSC Cadet members are invited to attend.  Please note this is 1 hour later than originally announced in BSC Buzz to allow those cadets taking part in the Transition Squad training to get ashore, change and take part in the meeting. Nominations for Cadet Officers and Committee Members are sought and nomination forms can be obtained from Fiona Brown on  Completed nomination forms must be submitted to Fiona by Sunday 1 May (note the deadline has been extended from the original day of 24 April)  by email or by post to 77 Hurst Green, Brightlingsea, Essex.  Nominations must be supported by a proposer and seconder who should both be members of the club. The Agenda for the AGM will be published on on Monday 2 May (note this is extended from the original date of 25 April).
The website for the Laser & OK Open Meeting taking place at BSC on 21 and 22 May 2016 is now live at  The Notice of Race has been published, online entry is open and we look forward to welcoming a bumper entry from both fleets.
