22459981122_455c693635_zThe annual Laying Up Supper, held on Saturday 24 October in the clubhouse, was declared  a resounding success by all who attended and our thanks must go to everyone who helped to organise the evening.  This year the food was provided by outside caterers, who did a great job, allowing our hard working galley team a well deserved night off, but that still left a host of additional jobs for our volunteer members to tackle, from organising the tickets and preparing the room and decor to ensuring that the right people received the right trophies on the night. This end of season gathering is the perfect opportunity to look back on all the fun and games of the year gone by and to honour our champions and trophy winners as they collect their prizes.  Photographer Tim Bees was once again on hand with his trusty camera to record things and you can find the photos at his online gallery. 22285633908_770f4a2dc7_zAlongside the racing trophies, one of the most important presentations of the evening is that of Bob's Bell.  Bob's Bell is awarded annually in memory of Bob Watts - one of the club's great unsung heroes.  Bob truly personified what our volunteer led club is all about.   He was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed it and would just quietly get on with doing jobs behind the scenes without any fuss or bother.  Sadly Bob died far too young, and his family presented us with Bob's Bell in his memory to be awarded annually to a member who, like Bob, has given extraordinary service to the club.  The 2015 recipient was David Gibbons. In her post dinner speech Commodore Alice Davies paid special tribute to the entire membership who share in the burden of running the club "for the members, by the members" and to the very special inclusive and can do attitude that prevails at BSC.  Becoming RYA Club of The Year 2015 was only possible thanks to the many long hours of work put in by the officers and committee members and to all the volunteer hours given by the membership in general. Thank you everyone for making BSC the success it is! With the formalities completed everyone was able to let their hair down and put their dancing shoes to good use and a great time was had by all. The next event in the social calendar is the Christmas Cracker Lunch which takes place immediately after the Christmas Cracker Race on Sunday 20 December.  Mark your diaries now and further information will follow shortly.
We need your help and input to shape and secure the future of our fantastic club! Recruitment-Poster-web
