The forecast looks good, high tide is 18.42 and we are all set for the first ever Family Fun Friday and Women On Water event so come on down and join us this Friday 19 May! The rescue/coach boat will be on the water between 18.00 and 20.00 so get down to the club, get your boats/paddle boards/kayaks/rowing dinghies on the water and join in the fun. Craig Bond will be available to offer coaching advice for anyone who would like a bit of extra help. For those who don't want to go afloat there will be sundowners from the bar from 7pm and Ian and Tina will be firing up the Beach BBQ so there's no need to miss out. We want to encourage the girls to get involved too with a relaxed opportunity to get afloat without the pressure of racing (or being shouted at by the old man!).  The week Fiona Brown will be out in her BOD Grethe so if you haven't done much sailing and fancy joining her just come down to the beach and get a lift out in the RIB for a gentle trip around the bay. If you are already an experienced lady sailor please bring your own boat and join in the fun and perhaps you could even help us introduce some of your girlfriends to sailing too. The club boats will be available to use for those with experience.  To book a boat please use the Club Boat Booking Form. Forthcoming Friday Family Fun and Women On Water dates are: 2 June 16 June 30 June 14 July 28 July
Please note that the May Mugs club races on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May will both start at 11am from the club line.  There is a Tera Train and Race event also going on that weekend but this will not affect club racing.
We've a host of fun activities for all the family over Brightlingsea Regatta Weekend on 27 and 28 May 2017, including the best view in town of the spectacular Saturday night fireworks.  Check out what's on offer in our poster below.
Summer is on the way folks and we have great plans to take advantage of our incredibly beautiful location and stunning sunsets. Please join us for some relaxed Family Fun Friday and Women on Water evenings on those Friday nights where the tide is in. Craig Bond will be out on the water with the rescue boat and offering coaching advice to anyone who requests it from 6pm to 8pm. We've got special opportunities for any of our lovely ladies who perhaps don't normally sail, but fancy just getting out on the water with the girls. And there will be fun galore for everyone on the beach. The bar will be open and if the weather's good we'll be firing up the BBQ, or if its a bit too wet to BBQ we'll organise fish and chips in the club instead. Check out the dates and details in our poster below and come along and join the fun.  For more information contact Fiona Brown on
Don't forget that we have a special Champagne Pursuit Race this Thursday 4 May (Prize Giving in the bar after racing) and that the 2017 Thursday Night Series gets underway next Thursday 11 May, all starting from 7pm. Once again the fabulous Barry Newman and Roger Robertson will be officiating in the start hut and we're looking forward to some great evening racing. Please remember to collect a copy of the 2017 Pursuit Race start times from the hut as some handicaps have changed this year.
Calling all Cadets and youngsters age 10 and over!  This Tuesday 2nd May we have registration for this year's Tuesday night Cadet Sailing sessions. These sessions are aimed at providing a fun introduction to sailing for youngsters and are open to both members and non-members of the club.  The sessions are organised by our Sailing School Principle Craig Bond and take place every Tuesday from the start of May until mid July. To sign up for this year's sessions please come to registration this Tuesday 2 May at 18.o0 at the Sailing Club. All cadets must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for registration, where arrangements for the sailing sessions will be explained. For more information please contact Craig Bond on 01206 304810 or 07894 507812.
Please note that Monday's Fulmar Cup Races - which were due to start from the Committee Boat - will now start from the club line.  Apologies for this change but unfortunately technical issues make using the Committee Boat impossible.  The start will still be at 14.00 and we will still hope to race 2 races time permitting.
The May Day bank holiday weekend looms and BSC has plenty on offer to keep everyone entertained.  The weekend gets off to a flying start on Friday 28th April with sundowners from 7pm in the Bar, which will also be open all three days of the long weekend from noon until late afternoon/early evening. For those who enjoy dinghy cruising we have three fantastic days of Cruising in Company on offer on Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April.  Andy Taylor on is your contact point for this if you would like more info. For the racers we have Spring Series No 7 on Saturday 29th and the Bines Worth Handicap on Sunday 30th April, both starting from the club line at 14.00.  Bank holiday Monday 1st May features the two race mini series for the Fulmar Cup, with the first start at 14.00 and the second asap after the first. Craig Bond and his merry band of instructors will be running an Adult Dinghy Course on Saturday and Sunday so keep an eye open for them while you are on the water and please extend our usual BSC welcome to the participants.  If you are interested in taking part in a future course (Dinghy or Powerboat, Adult or Cadet) please contact Craig on for more info. The tide times are perfect for those who want to enjoy an afternoon at the beach with high tides being 15.06 Saturday, 15.52 Sunday and 16.40 Monday. And of course Ian and Tina Hastings will be making sure there are some yummy food offerings available to keep you all sustained while you make the most of the fun. If you could spare an hour or two to help out in the galley either this weekend or at some point during the year do please contact Ian or Tina on as we always need volunteers and its a great fun way to support the club.   In true British fashion the bank holiday weather forecast is a bit mixed, but the good news is that the Met Office assures us the temperatures will be back  up into double figures and the sun is due to make a few appearances.  And as we all know the weather is always better than forecast in Brightlingsea so fingers crossed! Jo Adams, our fabulous editor of BSC Buzz is now hard at work on the May edition so if you have any stories for her do please contact her on Finally, if you haven't already done so, do please pick up a copy of the 2017 BSC Calendar which has now arrived and is available FOC from the bar. Looking forward to seeing you all at the club over the weekend. Fi Fiona Brown - BSC Commodore 07711 718470
