Well the good news is that the weather gods were on our side and the tide didn't quite make it into the dinghy park or club, although it was pretty close (another inch and this would have been a very different report).  The work everyone did to make the club safe was brilliant and we should all be very proud of the way everyone pulls together when needed. After the success of Operation Keep The Club Dry, we now of course need Operation Put The Beach Back (we used the beach to fill the sandbags) so we need as many members as possible to come to the club for a working party at 10am next Saturday 21 January to empty, brush clean and store the sand bags and plastic sheeting outside, and get everything inside back in place.  The more of us who can make it the quicker the operation will be so please spare the club and hour from 10am on Saturday 21 to finish this job.  If you can bring shovels, rakes, yard brooms, hand brushes (for brushing off the bags), etc, this would really help. Thanks again to everyone who helped so far and to everyone who can make it next weekend - BSC Rocks! 2017-01-12 19.52.24Well the good news is that Friday lunchtime's high tide came and went without incident.  The bad news is that the reason for this is that the forecast strong winds have arrived later than expected and so now the danger is from tonight's high tide at around 01.00. If you still have a boat in the dinghy park and have the ability to temporarily move it to higher ground this afternoon or evening we strongly recommend that you do so. We would like to say the most enormous thanks to everyone who has helped with securing the club and dinghy park so far, to the Brightlingsea Fire Service 2017-01-13 10.34.52-2who came to help us with the first phase of sand bagging on Thursday night, to Martin Ford who brought his expertise in sandbagging (gained through his work with Network Rail) today to ensure we've done the best possible job, to those who've run around picking up sandbags and other supplies, to everyone who has filled those sandbags and helped get all the fridges/freezers/lawn mowers/floor cleaners/soft furnishings/valuables up off the floor, and to those who have agreed to be on shift later to keep an eye on the club and be ready in case it does flood tonight.  It's been a particularly wet, windy and even snowy 24 hours and you really have gone above and beyond to support the club. 2017-01-13 10.16.59We've lost count a wee bit but must have had more than 60 people helping in one way or another.  We even roped Paralympian Hannah Stodel into the galley team to keep everyone supplied with much needed hot teas and coffees. There are too many to mention everyone by name, but thank you all for everything you have done so far. Of course having filled and placed some 750 sandbags, once the danger has passed we will need to put the beach back where it belongs and get things in the club and garages all back in place too.  Obviously we won't do this until the danger of flooding has definitely passed, but please be on stand by for another call to arms for the clean up. All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed that we dodge the bullet, or that if it does flood we've done enough to minimise the impact. We'll post updates on Facebook and Twitter regularly and another update to this website in due course.
URGENT - We need your help! Would all members please take note of and if possible help with the following: There is a risk of very strong winds and flooding of the club and dinghy park in the coming 24-78 hours (Thursday 12 to Saturday 14 January 2017) and particularly on the high tide at lunchtime tomorrow (Fri) .  To protect the club from risk of flooding and boats from risk of damage we need your urgent assistance as follows: Please would all available members attend an emergency sandbagging working party tomorrow (Fri 13 Jan) at 09.30 to help us sandbag the club.  Please bring your own shovel if you have one! Would the owners of the six boats still left in the front dinghy park remove them as a matter of urgency (they should have been removed by 31 Dec under club rules anyway, but it is essential that they are now moved right away). We recommend that anyone who has a boat stored in the back dinghy park and is able to move it to a safe storage area on higher ground does so. If anyone is available for an hour at 6.30pm this evening (Thurs) please would you come to the club to help put the fridges and freezers up on blocks.  If you have any suitable blocks and crates to assist with this please bring them with you. Please would everyone keep an eye on this website and our Facebook and Twitter accounts for further updates. As always, we're a club run by the members for the members so if we pull together we will be able to protect the club if the floods materialise, or at least minimise the damage. Don't forget that thanks to the 2013 floods we now have a very big flood damage excess on our policy so we must do everything we can to protect ourselves. Thanks everyone!
