Why BSC?

Six fabulous reasons to sail at Brightlingsea Sailing Club

1. Superb sailing

It's not by chance that Brightlingsea has bred a number of Olympic winners. Situated at the mouth of the Colne estuary, the sailing waters are windy most of the year but only rarely directly exposed to severe winds from the East. A sheltered creek and estuary keep the waves down and make for exciting but safe sailing.

2. Strong fleets

With over 500 members, we organise something for every sailor. There is an active cadet section that sails Topaz and Mirrors. Lasers offer keen competition for single-handers. B14's, Fireballs, Blazes and Merlin Rockets are a'plenty. Catamaran lovers will meet a competitive fleet of Tornados, Spitfires and a growing fleet of F18s

3. Sailing Training

BSC now has its own integrated sailing school, run by a RYA qualified instructor. Thinking of sailing, but not yet committed? Come along for a trial session or to one of our open days. Find out if sailing is for you, which boat is for you, if this is the place for you and if we are the friendly people for you. We are also here to help those wanting to hone their sailing skills to the highest level.

4. Screaming Social!

BSC's social scene is renowned. Whether it's a quiet pint looking out over the water after a good sail, a hog-roast on the beach, a formal dinner or a wicked late party night - we do it all. An on-site galley staffed by best chefs in Brightlingsea and a cheap bar will keep you coming back for more. For the younger ones there is also plenty to do in a relaxed and friendly environment.

5. Location, location, location

Although Brightlingsea is a quiet rural backwater it is readily accessible from the major conurbations in North Essex and South Suffolk. You'll be surprised how much you love it.

6. Support

To meet your sailing needs there are specialist services within walking distance, including the chandleries, boat builders, rigging services and sail makers. Interested in becoming a member or finding out more?
