The past couple of weeks have seen the club flat out with open activities. Over the weekend of 2 and 3 June we were one of the main host venues for Brightlingsea Regatta, and the weekend of 9 and 10 June saw us welcome the 2018 Albacore, Fireball (Golden Dolphin) and Merlin Rocket (Silver Tiller) opens.
Regatta weekend brought in excess of 1000 visitors to the club and the open meeting saw a terrific turnout of some 50 boats with a great mix of local and visiting entrants. We are hugely grateful to everyone who took the time to visit the club over these two weekends, but without the dozens of volunteer members who gave up their time, neither of these events would have been possible.
From helping on the water in rescue and committee boats and the regatta Try Sailing and Powerboating activities, to manning the galley, helping to put up and break down marquees, hanging bunting, clearing blocked loos, serving in the bar, mopping the floor, putting sticking plasters on grazed knees, making and selling cakes for the Great BSC Bake Off, making and serving Candy Floss and Popcorn, mowing the grass, clearing all the weeds, blowing up and moving racing marks, moving trollies, putting out and packing up chairs and tables, manning race and registration desks, acting as beach masters or first aiders and generally getting on with what needed doing, in the region of 100 volunteer roles have had to be filled during the course of just two weekends.
And as if that wasn't enough we also ran the usual Tuesday Night Cadet sessions for over 85 children with full galley service, a fabulous Family Fun Friday evening with scrumptious beach BBQ, Wednesday night development sailing, Thursday night racing with bacon butties and various committee meetings.
For all these things people kindly gave up their time voluntarily and came together to form a fantastic team who didn't just get the job done, but smashed it out of the park. So we'd like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped with these two events, and a big thank you to everyone who already has already volunteered to help in future. If you haven't volunteered for some duties yet please do. It's great fun and all part of being a member of BSC. Volunteer by simply logging into the member portal, clicking on the Duty Roster link in the right hand menu of the portal and selecting the events you would like to volunteer for. If you'd like to help but aren't sure of the best way to assist then email firstname.lastname@example.org and one of our team can help.
