BSC Prize Giving Halloween Bonfire Party

30th October 2021, 16:00 - 18:30

Autumn is upon us and we are approaching the time for our Annual Prize Giving gala event. Traditionally of course we present our prizes as part of a black tie laying up supper dinner, however, knowing that many members currently prefer not to attend large indoor events, we are ringing the changes this year to bring you...

The 2021 Brightlingsea Sailing Club Prize Giving Halloween Bonfire Party!

We invite all members to join us from 4pm on Saturday 30 October for an afternoon of Halloween fun, inside and out, to celebrate another fantastic season at BSC and to present our trophies and honour the winners.

On arrival we'll have live music and the club and marquee will be decorated with a Halloween theme. Members will receive a free drink from the bar (a pint or bottle of beer/lager/cider or a 175ml wine or a single shot of house spirit with a splash or a soft drink). There will also be free mulled cider and mulled apple juice and delicious home made soups and cakes, which will all be served outside under the marquee.

The bar will be open from 4pm and we will have the ceremonial lighting of the Big BSC Bonfire shortly after 4pm under the careful supervision of our very own Pyefleet Week twisted fire starter Robert White.

The legendary Jill Holland will be in charge of Halloween games for kids of all ages!

Letty Heppell will be organising the Great BSC Pumpkin Patch, which will form part of our decorations and for which everyone is invited to carve a pumpkin. There were some amazing entries last year so we can't wait to see what everyone makes this year.

Halloween fancy dress is optional for those who love any excuse to dress up, but not compulsory! But, whether in fancy dress or not, do please dress warmly to be outside and remember that even inside you may want a sweater/jacket as the windows and doors will be open to ensure good ventilation.

Our Prize Giving will get underway at 4.30pm and the bar will remain open into the early evening for those who want to stay on and enjoy a drink and a chat afterwards.

Read on for more info and about the Pumpkin Patch and how you can help.

The Great BSC Pumpkin Patch

Last year's BSC Pumpkin Patch was so popular with both members and the passing public that we are going to do it again, and our wonderful pumpkins will also form part of the decorations for the Prize Giving.

So please get designing and carving and deliver your pumpkins to the club house between 4pm and 6pm on Friday 29 October or between 9am and Noon on Saturday 30 October, so we can get them all displayed in good time.

Volunteers Needed

This is going to be very much a home spun, everyone pitch in event and we need help with the following so please email president@sailbrightlingsea.com to volunteer in some way if you possibly can:

Bonfire Wood - we need lots of dry, paint free bonfire wood to make a great clean bonfire so please check your gardens, sheds and garages to see if you have any spare wood you can contribute. This will need to be dropped off Saturday morning before 10.30am.

Marquee Moving - we need to pick up and move the marquee that's currently in the car park and put it onto the beach in front of the club. We need at least 12 strong bodies confirmed in advance as being free to help Barrie pick it up and walk it across the prom at 9am on Saturday 30 October. We also need a marquee dismantling party to get it down completely at 10am on Sunday 31 October. Please volunteer for at least one of these if you possibly can.

Halloween Decorations - Please can you have a look to see if you have any Halloween decorations you can spare to help us decorate both the club and the marquee. Also if anyone is free to help our decor demon Jane Somerville put up the decorations on Saturday morning from 10am please join us as extra hands will make light work.

Trophy Polishing - if you are good with a polish cloth and the Silvo please can you spare an hour or so from 10am to help us ensure all the trophies are bright and shiny for display and presentation.

Free Drink and Soup Service - We need a few helpers to assist for a couple of hours with serving the mulled cider and apple juice and home made soup. Fiona is coordinating and needs volunteers to be at the club for 3.45pm and we should be finished with service by about 5.30pm.

There will be plenty of coffee and biscuits on the go for helpers and its great fun to be part of it all so please just email president@sailbrightlingsea.com if you can help with any of the above.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday 30 October at 4pm.
