Overview

The club runs dinghy racing from late March until end December each year, with weekend and bank holiday club racing throughout the season, plus Thursday night pursuit racing from May to end July/early August. In addition the club hosts its annual Pyefleet Week Regatta during August as well as a range of training, open meeting and championship events each year.

The majority of club races are started off the clubhouse in Brightlingsea Creek from our purpose build Sailing Management Centre, which was officially completed in spring 2020 thanks to the generous support of the LEADER grant scheme. There is also a River Start series during the summer which is started from a Committee Boat out in the estuary. Racing started from the club line use round the cans courses incorporating a mixture of navigation marks and permanent racing marks. Racing started from the committee boat more typically uses windward/leeward or trapezoid on a mixture of laid and permanent marks.

Sailing members are expected to volunteer for a minimum of 4 racing related duties each year, either on the water in a patrol RIB or committee boat, or in the race office in the Sailing Management Centre. For those who have not previously undertaken duties, training is available and a buddy system is operated to enable you to gain experience and knowledge. The club also periodically runs RYA Powerboat Courses and Race Management Courses.

Please check the Calendar for details of all racing events and courses.
