About the course
The RYA Dinghy Instructor course is a widely recognised teaching qualification that will prepare you to inspire and teach the next generation. You'll cover the RYA method, the structure of the RYA and how to teach sailing.
During your training, you'll learn the RYA syllabus, the skills to be a successful instructor, effective communication styles and teaching methods. The course is a continual assessment with a moderation by a second trainer at the end of the course.

YOU MUST ATTEND ALL DAYS
Prerequisites / RYA Dinghy Instructor Requirements:
- Be aged 16 years or older
- Valid First Aid Certificate; For a list of acceptable First Aid Certificates visit the RYA Website
- RYA Membership
- Hold an RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
- Hold the RYA Safe and Fun Certificate. This is completed via the RYA interactive online course and can be booked through many online RYA centres.
- Have completed the pre-entry sailing assessment within 1 year prior to the instructor training course. (Please note the pre-entry sailing assessment is included on the 2nd day of your instructor course as seen above)
- Although not required, we would also advise you to complete RYA Seamanship Skills.
Qualified to teach
- Sailing Scheme Levels 1, 2 and 3, Day Sailing, Seamanship Skills, and Sailing with Spinnakers (If suitably experienced and approved by the Principal or Chief Instructor)
- Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4.
- Instructors are qualified specifically to teach on dinghies only
