BSC Welcomes Its First Open Meeting Visitors in 19 Months!

Published 18:50 on 21 May 2021
After an extraordinary year which none of us could have predicted, BSC is thrilled to finally be welcoming open meeting visitors to the club this weekend (22/23 May) for the Double Hander Open Meeting featuring the RS200, GP14 and Fireball Classes. This week's gales are due to blow themselves out overnight and the weekend offers great sailing breezes and mainly dry (although perhaps not sunny) weather.
Our new Committee Boat is all set to go for her first official outing with Race Officer Phil Rust in charge of proceedings and our mark layers and patrol boat teams are looking forward to finally being in action again after the long layoff.
Ashore things will be a little different. Registration will be run by Kathy Ashworth under the marquee in front of the club and although the changing rooms will be open the showers are not available and there will be a restriction on numbers (please use the tally system when you enter and leave which helps us control the numbers).
From 09.00 the Beachbox Cafe, situated by the top of the launching ramp, will be offering bacon butties and hot pastries and after sailing they will have hot chilli (meat and veg) and rice or a delicious soup and a roll to go.
The bar will be open after sailing for table service for groups of up to 6 (or two households) as per the regulations, and you are welcome to take the food you purchase at the Beachbox into the bar to enjoy with a drink. Sadly drinks cannot be taken outside from the bar and we must remind everyone that they must remain seated in their groups, provide their contact details for everyone 16 or over or check in with the NHS Trace and Trace QR code located on your table using your mobile phone and wear masks when not seated at their table.
We wish all the competitors great success in the racing and our race management, admin and hospitality teams the best of luck for a successful first open event of 2021!
