COVID-19: IMPORTANT STATEMENT FROM THE BRIGHTLINGSEA SAILING CLUB GENERAL COMMITTEE

Published 12:00 on 19 Mar 2020

Thursday 19th March - 12.00

Given the most recent Government advice relating to COVID-19, the BSC General Committee met by conference call last night to discuss the current position and all operations of the Club.

In accordance with the latest advice available from the government and the RYA, it has been decided that with immediate effect the Club and all operations will be physically closed until Thursday 30 April, but that this date will be under constant review and may be revised. This includes organised sailing, racing, training, galley, bar and changing rooms, with no part of the Club premises being accessible for members or guests. The decision is a difficult one, but is taken with members health, staff welfare and the longer term good of the Club and the wider community as key considerations.

However, we can confirm that the dinghy park will be opened with effect from this Saturday 21 March and the ramp will be accessible for members who wish to sail independently via their own means. There will be no access to club safety equipment, boats or changing facilities and we strongly recommend that those considering independent sailing review the BSC Independent Sailing Guidelines.

Programmed club races will be officially Postponed in the hope that it may be possible to run at least some of the key trophy races later in the year. The AGM will be postponed until a later date and details of this will be circulated to members shortly.

During the coming days and weeks, we can assure you that all aspects of the Club's current operations will be under review. We will continue all planning for sailing and social events going forward and will make decisions on these as and when required. The Committee is also looking at ways in which we can introduce alternative opportunities for members to continue to engage with club activities whilst still keeping members safe, and further information about this will follow shortly.

During this difficult period, we will also be looking to do all we can to assist members and investigating ways that we may be able to help. We will update on this and any change in our operational status as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we thank all members for their continued support and understanding at this very difficult time. We will continue to update members on a regular basis.
