NEW COVID-19 LAWS RELEVANT TO CLUB ACTIVITIES COME INTO FORCE - 24 SEPTEMBER 2020

Published 20:06 on 24 Sep 2020

As you will have heard, new laws have been put in place regarding Covid-19. These laws have a significant impact on the club so please take the time to read the following carefully and work with us to ensure the club complies. Failure to do so risks a fine of £1,000 to £4,000 for the club and of £200 or more for individual members.

PROVIDING CONTACT INFO WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE EVEN WHEN OUTSIDE

We are now legally required to record your contact details when you are participating in, supporting or watching activities at the club even if you do not go inside the building.

The government has today launched the new NHS Covid-19 App and we must display the related QR code and request you to check in using your mobile phone every time you come to site.

Please can everyone with a smartphone go to their App store, search for the NHS Covid-19 App, download it and set it up with the Contact tracing option enabled.

Each time you arrive at the club simply open the NHS Covid-19 App, click on the Venue Check-in tab and hold the camera up to the black and white QR code posters which you will find located at all main access points and key locations around the club.

We understand that some older phones cannot use the App and not everyone has a smartphone, so whenever we are running organised activities there will be a Duty Officer present (located in the area between the clubhouse, the top of the ramp and the sailing management centre) who will be able to check you in personally. Please ensure you report to them when you arrive on site.

Please note you still need to sign on and off for racing via the website as normal.

BAR CLOSURE

The new laws mean we can no longer operate a take away service from the bar. Having investigated the significant additional costs and logistical issues involved in moving to a table service, your committee has concluded that at this time the only prudent option is sadly to close the bar with immediate effect for the remainder of the season.

The good news is that Tracey King will continue to provide her wonderful service from the Beachbox Cafe on sailing days, weather permitting, and that she plans to add some more delicious hot options to her offerings as the weather gets colder.

GROUPS MUST NOT EXCEED 6 MAXIMUM INCLUDING CHILDREN

Whilst sailing as part of a club organised activity we can do so under the 'Team Sport' Government guidance for outside sports, which allows more than 6 people as a group. However this only applies for organised on water activities. When sailing independentlyyou must still comply with the new groups of 6 law.

Before and after sailing or when spectating or supporting the sailors everyone must keep group sizes to 6 maximum, stay 2m away from those outside their household/bubble and not mix between groups.

Because the onus is now legally on the club to ask everyone to follow these laws, if one of the Duty Officers or a Committee Member does remind you to be more aware of your social distancing, please don't be offended, work with them to comply and remember that they are only doing this to keep us safe.

Please also be aware that Council appointed Wardens are already patrolling and have the ability to impose fines on the spot. The club had its first visit from them during Beach School on Tuesday and no doubt we can expect return visits. If asked by an official Warden to take social distancing action please respond courteously to ensure you avoid fines for both yourself and the club.

As human beings and sailors this all goes against all our natural instincts and we know it is going to be very hard, but let's work together so we can continue sailing and enjoying each other's company from a safe social distance for as long as we possibly can.

Thank you

The BSC General Committee
