Social Activities Coming Up

Published 17:50 on 5 Apr 2018

At last the sun has come out today and if the Met Office are to be believed temperatures will be in double figures this weekend so perhaps Spring is finally here!

We have racing every weekend this month and in addition we have some great shoreside activities coming up for you too.

On 14th April from 6.30pm we have the Racing Rules Seminar with optional club supper. This always popular session will be led by David Charlton, who will take you through the key points of the racing rules in an interactive session which will include examples specific to our sailing conditions here in Brightlingsea. From what your water rights are as you jockey for position off the start line to whether you have an overlap or not at a busy leeward mark, Dave will talk you through each scenario and will get you, the participants, fully involved in the action. The seminar is free of charge, suitable for both cadets and adults, and a light club supper is also available at a cost of £5 per person. Places are strictly limited to 30 for this event so please BOOK early to avoid disappointment.

Our planned Tactics Seminar with the always amazing Mike McNamara has had to be postponed from the planned date of Saturday 28t April. We are just tying down a revised date with Mike now, but anticipate this taking place in early summer - just in time for the Youth Regatta and Learning & Skills Solutions Pyefleet Week.

The rescheduled AGM will take place on Sunday 29th April at 11am in the clubhouse and will be followed by the Commodore's Reception in the newly refurbished Estuary Lounge. A final agenda with the list of nominations and motions will be distributed shortly and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Click here for the initial agenda.

Our 2018 Family Fun Friday and Women On Water sessions will get underway again from Friday 11th May. You can find the full programme for these extremely popular events on the Calendar (just select the Type FFF/WW to see these events only). By popular demand we have also added a couple of weekend Family Fun events too, one on Sunday 1 July and one on Saturday 25 August.

Also on Friday 11th May we are hosting a new members evening when we invite all our existing members to join us in welcoming our new members to the club. This will be combined with the Family Fun/WoW evening so, new and old members alike, please do come down and join us.

Brightlingsea Regatta is early this year on 2 and 3 June and as always we will have a host of great activities happening at the club over the weekend. On Saturday the focus is on family fun, Try Sailing and Power Boating, and we are very honoured to be hosting the inaugural St Helen Hospice Craft Your Raft Race which will start at 2.30pm. In the evening we will have our traditional Fireworks Party with great music, a delicious BBQ and a chilled beach vibe and of course the best view of the fireworks in town. On Sunday there will still be lots of family fun, but the focus will be on our own regatta racing with the Jodi Jug and Mildred Stone races starting at 2pm. These will be followed by a traditional regatta afternoon tea.

And don't forget to keep Saturday 23 June free in your diaries so that you can join us for our spectacular 130th Anniversary Gala Ball, tickets for which will go on sale next week. We are strictly limited to 130 places and tickets will cost £30 for a delightful black tie gala evening including a Pimms reception, three course dinner and dancing.
