URGENT HELP NEEDED AT THE CLUB NOW - IMMINENT FLOOD RISK

Published 07:58 on 19 Nov 2020

We have a very high likelihood of flood water topping the promenade and getting into the back of the club, and possibly into the front as well just after lunch today (Thur 19 Nov) with a 0.9m surge predicted on top of a 5.2m tide, giving a 6.1m tide level.

Although no Environment Agency warning has yet been issued the surge has already passed North Shields, Whitby and is passing Immingham now at around the predicted height, so it is real and it is on the way.

If you are local, available and NOT in a Covid-19 High Risk category please can you come down to the club from 08.00 to help prepare the clubhouse, race box and boat park.

Please bring masks and observe social distancing to keep everyone safe.

Please bring shovels, mops, buckets, wheelbarrows, etc.

Wear layers and bring waterproofs as sunshine and possible showers are forecast.

Please remember to park cars on higher ground from lunchtime to avoid a last minute panic to move them all out of the club car park.

If you can help please come to the club at 08.00 or as soon as you are able!

If you still have a boat in the boat park and can get down, please can you slack off your tie downs a little and ensure you boat and trolley are prepared to float (particularly in the back boat park), to reduce the number of boats that other volunteers need to attend to. The good news is that the wind forecast is mid teens gusting into the 20s so minimal risk of boats being blown over today/overnight.

Thank you

Fiona Brown
President
