Sailing Committee Update May 2018
Published 11:38 on 15 May 2018
Here is Vice Commodore Sailing Simon Redfearn's update on the May 2018 Sailing Committee Meeting:
Sailing instructions will be changed to limit the number of starts in our pursuit races. We have reduced the starts from 49 to 25 by grouping together at 30second intervals and by removing some dinghies from our list.
This summer we will be trialling the use of a RIB as a Start Boat so that more races can start in deeper water in the main river. This will also give us more windward starts. To be used on all in handicaps only. It may be a simpler more flexible substitute for the committee boat.
The issue of leaving our RIB`s on the jetty or on a mooring during the week was discussed and was generally agreed that this is not ideal in the long term. We hope to persuade Park and Ride to provide an extended service to us to cover recovery of the boats after Wednesday and Friday night activities.
Race Officers to be reminded to aim for race duration of 90 - 120 minutes. Some races have been too short.
We will be discussing the possibility of using 3 alternative start times next season. Make your views known please.
There are members who would like to set up a mid-week informal Social Sailing Group for all those sailors who just want to get out on the river in company with others. A non-racing group. Please contact Lars Ekeroth if you are interested in joining in. Email larsekeroth@gmail.comor mob 07944563781.
The full sailing committee minutes will available be available via the Members Portal shortly.
