Sailing Committee Update - July 2018

Here is Vice Commodore Sailing Simon Redfearn's update on the July 2018 Sailing Committee Meeting:
The Three Creek Crawl. It's easy to get lost in these backwaters so we are writing new instructions for the Three Creeks Crawl. Due to our changing environment we will be visiting Pyefleet next year and giving St Osyth creek a miss.
Cadet Racing is up and running with Harry McTiernan winning the first race of the series. Next race is June 21stand the Cadets will be starting after the main all in start. Further races will be held this year and fortnightly races will be added to the Calendar next year.
In our effort to encourage more competitive cadet fleet racing, Cadets and parents are recommended to sail our core classes - The Tera, Feva, Laser and Mirror.
We have also discussed the idea of incorporating alternating fleet starts in the Calendar next year to encourage growth of specific classes in the main club racing too.
We have trialled the use of a RIB as a committee boat. The Fulmar Cup was run on July 7thand it seems like this was a success. Our feedback suggests that you all want more committee boat starts. We will be putting these into the Calendar next year but we will need your support in that we will need more race officers to come forward to run them. The system is set up and really is very straight forward. Lay the line, set a simple course, run a basic flag sequence and record the times of the finishers. It's designed to be just as easy as running racing from the hut, so please put your name down and have a go.
We have had issues with keys and security on our RIB`s. In future we will go back to our old system where crews will pick up the RIB from Park and Ride and be launched with the boat. When you come in please wait to put the RIB back on the trailer rather than abandoning the boat on the jetty, unless specifically instructed otherwise. If you are instructed to leave a boat on the jetty always return keys to Park and Ride. Keys should never be left on the RIB`s
We are very keen to set up an Open Events Race Management Team to help run the various aspects of our open meetings and special sailing events. We are looking for people who are interested in joining our team. You don't need to be a racer, everyone is welcome and in-house training will be given.
