Sailing Update

Published 19:10 on 25 Sep 2018

Here is Vice Commodore of Sailing Simon Redfearn's update on the September 2018 Sailing Committee Meeting:

The 2019 Racing Calendar will include a new series over six weekends (12 days ) between May and August when we will be using the RIB as a start boat. The aim of the series is to run two races each day back to back with a windward start. These will take place on the low tide weekend and will be all-in handicaps. Simple courses with two or three marks will be encouraged. We will need your support in that we will need race officers to come forward to run them. The system is set up and really is very straight forward. Lay the line, set a simple course run a basic flag sequence and record the times of the finishers. It's designed to be a basic and simple system so please have a go. There will be a new Trophy for the overall winner and the first Cadet.

Our Duty Roster system will be updated next year. With over 600 members we feel that more people should be coming forward to volunteer either on or off the water. We will be asking all members who use the club to do at least two duties per year. Members who sail or race will continue to do 4 duties per year. However this will now include volunteering for our Open events and championships. Full details of all the changes will be announced in October.
